What Waters in Prince William County Are "Impaired"?

To be completed

SECTION I of the Impaired Waters List is divided into 3 sections:

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY WATERS LISTED IN SECTION I OF THE IMPAIRED WATERS LIST:
- Cedar Run -- 28 miles from the confluence at Mill Run downstream to its confluence with the Occoquan River. Not swimmable, partially supports aquatic life Impairment causes are fecal coliform and phosphorous 1A, Identified in 1998; TMDL scheduled for 2004
- Occoquan Reservoir -- 1,700 acres includes all of the Occoquan Reservoir Not supporting aquatic life Impairment causes are dissolved copper (surface and bottom), dissolved oxygen (bottom), and total phosphorous (surface and bottom). The source of dissolved copper is thought to be copper sulfate applied to control algal blooms. Dissolved oxygen problems are thought to occur as a result of mixing of the water column near the dam. The total phosphorus are believed to be due to ongoing agricultural and development activities. 1A & 1C, identified 2002; TMDL scheduled for 2010
- Broad Run -- 7.26 miles from the confluence of Rocky Branch to the confluence of Cannon Branch Partially supports swimming uses Impairment cause is fecal coliform 1A, Identified in 2002; TMDL scheduled for 2010
- Broad Run -- From Lake Manassas continuing 1.51 miles upstream Partially supports swimming uses Impairment cause is fecal coliform 1A, Identified in 2002; TMDL scheduled for 2010 Bull Run -- 4.8 miles from the confluence with Cub Run to confluence with Pope's Head Creek Partially supporting aquatic life Impairment unknown 1A, identified in 1994; TMDL scheduled for 2010
- Kettle Run -- 7.59 miles extending upstream from the confluence with Broad Run Not swimmable Impairment cause is fecal coliform 1A, Identified in 2002; TMDL scheduled for 2010
- Neabsco Bay -- .37 miles extending upstream from the confluence with the Potomac River Partially supporting aquatic life and fish consumption Impairment causes are pH and PCBs in fish tissue 1A, identified 2002; TMDL scheduled for 2014
- Neabsco Creek -- 8.8 miles contuing upstream from the start of the Creek's tidal waters near the Potomac Partially supporting aquatic life Impairment cause is fecal coliform 1A, identified 2002; TMDL scheduled for 2010
- Occoquan Bay -- .69 miles, half mile radius around DEQ monitoring station in center of Bay Partially supporting aquatic life and fish consumption Impairment causes are pH and PCBs in fish tissue 1A, identified 2002; TMDL due 2014
- Chopawamsic Creek -- .1 sq. mile, to the upstream limit of tidal waters Partially supports aquatic life Impairment cause is pH 1A, identified 2002, TMDL due 2014
- Chopawamsic Creek -- .76 miles upstream from free flowing waters Partially supports aquatic life Impairment cause is pH 1A, identified 2002, TMDL due 2014
- Quantico Creek -- 1.8 miles about .75 rivermiles upstream of I-95 to the end of free flowing waters Partially supports fish consumption Impairment cause is PCBs 1A, identified 2002, TMDL due 2014
- Powell's Creek -- 5.02 miles from about .2 rivermiles below Lake Montclair downstream to the end of free flowing waters Partially supports swimming and fish consumption Impairments are fecal coliform, PCBs and PAH in fish tissue 1A, identified 2002, TMDL due 2014

SECTION II of the Impaired Waters List contains waters where a VA Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit has been issued that will take some time to achieve stated goals.
