Yellow-flowered Leafcup, Bearsfoot
Smallanthus uvedalia

Aster Family, Asteraceae

Yellow-flowered leafcup has large leaves, up to 12 inches in diameter, with long, winged petioles that form a small cup around the stem that traps water after a rain.

Yellow-flowered Leafcup grows in full sun or part shade and can reach eight to ten feet in height. It blooms July through September, attracting butterflies and other pollinators.

This long-blooming plant is commonly seen in Northern Virginia along the edges of fields, moist clearings and forests.
