Black-billed Cuckoo
Coccyzus erythropthalmus
A long, slender bird that is about the size of a blue jay. They are elusive birds that move quietly through thickets and seldom perch in the open. Black billed cuckoos eat large insects, such as caterpillars, butterflies, katydids, cicadas, and others. They are one of the few species that will eat tent caterpillars, which is just what this bird was doing minutes before the photo was taken.
